Disney and Lucasfilm just officially announced the cast of “Star Wars Episode 7: (subtitle to come)”.
As was speculated the OG cast will be returning: Mark Hamil, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford, Anthony Daniels, Kenny Baker, and Peter Mayhew. The new cast will consist of John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis (Gollum), Domhnall Gleeson, and (Ming the Merciless himself) Max von Sydow. Most of the new cast has some weighty performances behind them, and John Boyega is amazing in the underrated “Attack the Block”. One thing is for sure, they all signed up to have their faces on toy shelves and pillow cases in a few years.
It’s exciting to see the pic above, and that the ‘force’ is in full swing. Director J.J. Abrams has his work cut out for him, with the magnifying glass of the internet all over every move he makes, I hope he’s up to the challenge. He needs to remember what a big-budget fanboy flick can end up looking like, just as Bryan Singer about “Superman Returns”.
Even his attempt for Spielberg cinematic feelings kinda stumbled in “Super 8”, let’s just hope that his rejuvenation of the Star Trek franchise will translate to a great Star Wars movie as well. Good Luck Mr. Abrams.
