In this weeks edition of “Crossing the Streams” we got crazy teens, dead puppies, and the running dead. There is even some drama for your mama. One of our picks has 4 films in the series, but it will make for a action-packed weekend watch. Check ’em out!

NETFLIX:

Barbarian– If you’ve seen Weapons in theaters and want to see more impressive horror from writer/director Zach Cregger, Barbarian is your next watch. From 2022 This is almost two horror movies in one, starting off unsettling and creepy, then turning into tension filled horror with impressive performances all around by Georgina Campbell, Justin Long, and Bill Skarsgård. **Only a few days left to Stream this one.**

Thirteen– This fantastic first film by Catherine Hardwicke from 2003 is both a guidebook to raising a teen and a horror story of raising a teen. With a trio of brilliant performances by Holly Hunter, Evan Rachel Wood and Nikki Reed who also co-wrote the screenplay not too long after her own 13th birthday. It is for sure an impressive debut in so many ways.

PRIME VIDEO:

Return of the Living Dead– I would have to say that this is my favorite zombie movie of all time. I was 11 when I saw it, so the female nudity was a big draw, but the practical gore unlike anything I had ever seen before, and the dark humor still holds up today. The world-building and character development is awesome for a horror movie, as it takes what George Romero created and simply elevated it to its ridiculously fun conclusion.

HULU:

John Wick (1-4)– Now you can watch all 4 of one of the greatest action franchises of all time! From the humble beginnings of a dead wife and even deader puppy (RIP Daisy), to bulletproof coats, and the batshit insane world of the “High Table”. Relive all the glorious moments of of the Wickaverse with Keanu Reeves most badass character. My personal favorite moments: The silencer gunfight/antique shop fight (Chapter 2) and…hell all of Chapter 4. In my opinion the best action movie of the past 20 years (after Fury Road).

Bobby Trevino Likes It– This two-hander by filmmaker Tracie Laymon brings something that is sorely missing in a lot of films and I would say even the world at large. Heart. When a mis-text brings two strangers together, instead of a quirky rom-com, we get a incredibly positive and honest look at human connections. Barbie Ferreira and John Leguizamo bring their characters to life in the most compelling way, and will leave you filled with hope.

HBO MAX:

You Hurt My Feelings– When a writer over-hears her husbands true feelings about her latest book,  she feels it changes their whole marriage. With an outstanding performance by Julia Louis-Dreyfus who pulls in everyone around her like a little sarcastic tornado, it is easily one of her best. Filled with relatable situations and scenarios this film will have you laughing through most of its running time.
