Oct. 18 – Oct. 26 Ghosts, Gators, Corn and Creatures
House (1985) Still a solid horror/humor flick. The story works better than most of the special effects, and I’m always saying we need more William Katt.
The Similars (2015) A Twilight Zone-esque premise blended with a Shyamalan-esque twist doesn’t completely work out, but was still enjoyable to watch unfold.
The Pool (2018) Great thriller of what can happen when every single thing goes wrong. Then you have to survive nature and a creature. Some of the visuals take away from the overall film, but still worth a watch.
Ghostbusters (1984) Without a doubt, still one of the greatest films of all time.
The Invitation (2015) Awesome slow burn of a film that pays off as it goes on. Fits into a lot of recent horror of real people doing terrible things.
The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954) A classic from the Universal Monster era that still holds up today. The underwater scenes are magical and the creatures design is still a bit unsettling.
The Omen (1976) This is surely in my top ten horror films of all time. It’s aged well even with its practical effects that are simply chilling. It makes sense that the director that made you believe a man can fly, first made you believe in the devil.
Ghost (1990) Probably the only love story with a ghost that works still today. Mostly it stands out due to the performances by Swayze and the much deserved award winning turn by Goldberg.
Children of the Corn (1984) The haunting children chanting sounds of the score still get me. Even if certain elements don’t hold up much anymore, there is still a ton to love in this Stephen King adaptation. And the line “Question me not Malachai.” is still spoken in our house.
